How do you get a job as a driver in Romania? Required documents and employment procedures

Besides your passion for driving, when you plan to become a truck driver, you need to know what this job entails and what documents are required to become an employee of a domestic and international transport company.

You should know from the beginning that obtaining them is a process that can take even a few months, in the case of certificates. These certificates are necessary for the safety of your truck and cargo, as you will be travelling to many European countries.

Documents one needs to become a truck driver

Before getting behind the wheel of a truck, you need to prepare the following documents:

  • Identity document
  • Birth certificate
  • C, CE driving license
  • The EC license is required for driving trucks with a mass greater than 7.5 t.
  • ARR cargo certificate

The cargo transportation certificate (ARR) is the document that entitles you to drive a truck for professional transport such as cargo or passenger transportation.

ADR certificate (optional)

Drivers can also transport dangerous goods, so they must have an ADR professional certificate.

The document is required for you to know how to prevent incidents, even if you will not carry fuel. There are many common goods that cannot be transported without an ADR certificate, such as paint or perfumes.

The ADR certificate is obtained from the Romanian Road Authority or the ARR territorial agency.

Oversized transport certificate (optional)

The oversized transport certificate is a document that authorizes you to transport a load exceeding the standards of size or weight permitted by law. This is valid and required only in Romania.

Passenger transport certificate (optional)

Driver card

The driver card is the electronic identification document of the driver, which allows the storage of data on the activity performed. It is issued by the Romanian Road Authority – A.R.R.

Certificate from the general practitioner

It is the document issued to you by your general practitioner and which proves that you are not in the doctor’s records as suffering from chronic diseases.

Medical certificate

This document proves that you are physically fit to drive a vehicle. The medical examination aims to detect any health troubles, which could prevent you from driving safely, especially since the work involves travelling long distances. This necessarily includes performing tests, examinations in: internal medicine, general surgery, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, neurology, psychiatry.

The certificate is obtained from a health centre certified by the Ministry of Transport.

Psychological certificate

The certificate is obtained during the same medical examination above, carried out in a health centre certified by the Ministry of Transport.

The examination assesses cognitive (perception, memory, thinking), motor (reactivity, coordination), integrative (attention, emotion, motivation, attitude-value structure) skills.

In the case of professional drivers, the medical and psychological examination is repeated every year.

Skills assessment report from an occupational medicine practice

This is another medical document that certifies that you are physically fit after a thorough medical examination. You can get a medical record for employment from any health centre in your area.

Photo for the card

The photo that will be affixed on the work card must be of the portrait type and have the dimensions of 30x40mm (ID type)

Bank accounts in Lei and EUR

The driver’s salary is paid by bank transfer; therefore it is necessary to have an account in Euro and Lei.

Criminal record

It is the document that is issued upon request by any police station. It is a record of the facts for which criminal, administrative or court proceedings-criminal measures have been taken.

Vehicle driving record

The vehicle driving record is the document in which all the driving sanctions and the traffic violations of the driver are registered, in the last five years, on the Romanian territory. These are issued by the Traffic Department.

Passport

Blue River provides transport services to European countries, including England, where transit is subject to holding a passport, so possession of the document is recommended upon employment.

Graduation documents

For employment, it is sufficient to submit the last diploma obtained.

Birth certificate or ID card for each minor child

If you are a parent or have minor children in your care, you must bring a copy of their birth certificate. In this way, the family, including the housewife, can benefit from health insurance.

The decision of termination of the contract from the last job

If for most employers this document is purely informative, in the case of transport companies, the document is mandatory.

According to the regulations in force, if the driver works for several employers, the working time is calculated as the sum of the hours being worked for all employers.

Therefore, the employer needs to know if you work for other employers as well.

European Health Insurance Card

The document ensures the status of insured and medical-supported European citizen and the provision of specialized care in case of health problems that may arise in the EU territory. This is obtained through an application submitted to the Insurance House that holds your records.

Affidavit before a notary that you have not driven in the last 28 days a vehicle according to the AETR rules

In the case of most companies, as at Blue River, you need to prove your experience as a driver in this field. If you have not been active in the field for the last 28 months, i.e. you have not driven a truck, a notarized affidavit is required to confirm it.

If you are just getting started, you will be able to stay in the cab with one of the experienced drivers, until he/she agrees that you have acquired the necessary knowledge to get behind the wheel of your own truck.
